Florence and the Machine is an up and coming band from England led by singer and songwriter Florence Welch. The band’s music is a one of the most refreshing sounds to come out in decades bringing comparisons to Janis Joplin and Patti Smith. Combining rock and soul, as well as other genres, Florence and the Machine have managed gain mainstream success in the US and Britain with hits like “Kiss With A Fist” and “The Dog Days Are Over”.
The band-s first album, Lungs, released in 2009 did not become a commercial hit until 2010 when it first managed to top the British charts. The band was nominated for the Best New Artist at the 53rd Grammy Awards, coming up short by losing to Esperanza Spalding.
Florence and the Machine will be releasing their second album, Ceremonials, in October 2011. The first single “What The Water Gave Me” has been available on the internet for a few months now and the albums second single “Shake It Out” just recently was made available. Along with their new album, Florence and the Machine recently covered Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” for the Buddy Holly tribute album, Rave on Buddy Holly. If you missed Lungs, don-t miss out on Ceremonials.
