Plastic Beach – The Loneliest Gorillaz Album

In our modern age of Cox Cable and smartphones and social networking, it is hard to imagine a world or even a time where we were not this connected or the world simply didn’t feel this small. Plastic Beach, the latest album from Gorillaz, changes all that by evoking the sense of isolation many people not hooked into the internet and the latest network news must feel. When one listens to Plastic Beach it’s hard not to feel like you are part of the disenfranchised of some global megalopolis that has simply forgotten you along with all the outdated tech.

What makes the album even more of a success is the haunting vision of future isolation. This album isn’t a call back to the past before technology bound us so tightly but rather a vision into a dystopian world where all that remains of our civilization are the dying skeletal remains of towering skyscrapers and failing technology. The songs feel like a cautionary, mournful wail to the future of humanity when we are finally all gone and all the world has to remember us by are the superficial edifices of our technology, glamour gear and ridiculously expensive and excessive fashion apparel.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers continue to rock with their current world tour to promote their 10th studio album ‘I’m With You’. The band has been a force in the music industry since 1983 and over time their sound becomes more defined, but always has been distinctively recognizable. Anthony Kiedis and Flea are ever at the core, being the original singer and bassist for all these years. Drummer Chad Smith has become an essential and lasting member for nearly as long. Florence The Machine Keep The Hits Coming In 2011

Florence and the Machine is an up and coming band from England led by singer and songwriter Florence Welch. The band’s music is a one of the most refreshing sounds to come out in decades bringing comparisons to Janis Joplin and Patti Smith. Combining rock and soul, as well as other genres, Florence and the Machine have managed gain mainstream success in the US and Britain with hits like “Kiss With A Fist” and “The Dog Days Are Over”.

The band-s first album, Lungs, released in 2009 did not become a commercial hit until 2010 when it first managed to top the British charts. The band was nominated for the Best New Artist at the 53rd Grammy Awards, coming up short by losing to Esperanza Spalding.

Florence and the Machine will be releasing their second album, Ceremonials, in October 2011. The first single “What The Water Gave Me” has been available on the internet for a few months now and the albums second single “Shake It Out” just recently was made available. Along with their new album, Florence and the Machine recently covered Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” for the Buddy Holly tribute album, Rave on Buddy Holly.
